Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions? You’re in the right place. Here are the answers to the things clients and visitors ask most often about Sown to Bloom.
Will the Original Flowers Keep Their Color? (IMPORTANT Read!)
Pressed flowers are a natural, organic material, and like anything that comes from the earth, they will slowly change over time. With proper care—keeping your piece out of direct sunlight, away from bathrooms or humid spaces, and not above heat sources—you can enjoy their natural hues for many years.
That said, some soft fading is completely normal and will eventually happen. Certain blooms naturally shift color faster than others, and some even change slightly during the pressing process.
This gentle aging is part of what makes original pressed-flower art so special. When you choose an original, it’s important to expect and embrace this natural evolution. The heart of the design—the shape, texture, and essence of the flowers—will remain for decades.
If preserving the original colors is important to you, many clients choose to purchase a print alongside their original piece. The print captures the fresh colors forever, allowing you to enjoy the vibrancy side-by-side with the soft, organic aging of the original.

How do you frame your artwork?
All of my artwork is protected by custom wood frames that are built and shipped within Canada from Canada on Canvas. The wood frames are backed with acid free foam board and come with non-glare UV protective plexiglass. All pricing is subject to change based on customization of frame size, amount of flowers, pre-pressed collection, and/or quality of flowers upon arrival to my studio.
Can I press flowers if I don't have a traditional press?
Yes, absolutely! If you’re wanting to start pressing flowers but don’t have a traditional press yet, there are plenty of other methods you can use. That said, a classic wooden flower press will always give you the most consistent, beautiful results—and we definitely recommend making one when you can. If you’d like to learn how to build your own, just reach out to me and stay tuned for more education through my blog coming soon!
Do you seal your originals?
I don’t use any acrylic sprays or sealants on my pressed flower pieces. While some artists choose to spray their work—or even use hairspray—I prefer not to use aerosol products, both for environmental reasons and because it doesn’t align with our process.
The flowers themselves will last for decades, but their colors will gently shift—just like we do as we move through life.
